Hurricane Rita--These Dangerous Women!!!!

OMG, I just learned how to post a pic without using Hello!!! I'm so excited! It took 20 times longer, but who cares!!!! Now I can report the latest breaking news to you now from the comfort of my office!!!

Hurricane Rita is making her way through the Gulf of mexico terrorizing many Texas cities!!!! As you can see, she is out in the Gulf now, but will be making her way to the coast line and then onto ground. You might ask (for those of you not so strong with Texas geography--myself included), where is Austin on this map? Well, we're right in the south central part of Texas--the hurricane is projected to hit us early Saturday morning. Currently, there is a mandatory evacuation on the gulf coast cities--including Corpus Christie, Port Aransas, Galveston and some other crap hole little towns down there. Everyone here is talking about stocking up on water and canned goods as winds will be up to 70 MPH and electricity could be off for the day--or more....Houston is going to get hit hard too--it's a little closer to the gulf. The Katrina evacuees that are in Houston are being evacuated once again to San Antonio and other cities...poor people!!! Houston is a huge city with over 1 million residents, so housing all of those people plus the Katrina people is going to be a challenge....Let's hope for the best! We should start seeing the beginnings of the hurricane on Friday with rain and scattered storms. There is also risk of small tornadoes throughout Texas, so I may be taken back to my Kansas days....hopefully not. I'll keep you all posted on the progress and warnings...I may not be posting Saturday!!!!!

I just saw how Rita was declared a category 5 - that's some heavy duty stuff... as a hurricane veteran I would highly suggest that you stock up on:
water
candles/flashlights
non-perishable food & baby stuff
and make sure you have a good battery powered radio

I would also suggest pulling together whatever important documents you might need/want unless you already have like a fire proof box or safety deposit box. Just in case.

I learned the hard way during hurricane floyd that it's better to be safe than sorry...and after last seasons gazillion hurricanes I know it may seem kinda "silly/stupid" to go hit up the grocery store for supplies like all the other crazy people out there, but when the storm is this big, you should do it.

Hope you guys stay safe!

...and you might get a day or two off work... last year they closed our college on two or three different occasions and for 2 or 3 days at a time...and I was lucky sitting home with power the entire time. :)
