A Tribute

Four years ago today, an event happened like nothing this nation had ever seen. Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center and one into the Pentagon Killing hundreds and causing millions in damage. In the midst of a national tragedy, this country must pay tribute to those who lost their lives in a senseless act of hatred on September 11, 2001.

I know exactly where I was when I heard the news...I guess the impact of what had happened didn't hit me until later in the afternoon after hearing all of the news reports. Do you all remember the moment you heard what happened? Posted by Picasa

it was strange, last night when I turned off my phone (after midnight) I saw the date Sept. 11...and was like "hmmm"

I remember clearly where and what I was doing on that day and time. I was at work (early as usual) and saw everything as it happened on a tv in a co-workers office. I was scared as hell because Andy was half-way across the world in the middle of a 6 month deployment. I had been planning a trip to Italy to meet his ship...and it ended up that his ship's schedule changed beccause of the events and he never went to Italy... the university closed at noon that day and I came home and glued myself to the tv and wondered when I would hear from Andy and if he would say that his deployment had been extended.

What a horrible day that was.

It reminds my of the generation before us. Everyone remembers what they were doing when they heard Kennedy has been shot. I was at school. I remember hearing about something happening, but I assumed it was somewhere else. It's still hard to imagine getting hit on American soil. When I did realize what happend, I was in shock. A few of my friends and I went back to my place and just watched the news all day.

You're right, Sarah about the Kennedy thing...

I walked downstairs to go to school and my uncle was sitting in his usual chair drinking coffee watching the news--nothing abnormal. I hit the bottom stairs, said good morning and he turned around and told me the World Trade Center had been crashed into by a plane...I didn't know what to think. At that time, they didn't know it was terrorist attacks...I went off to school and as I drove, they reported that a thrid plane had hit the Pentagon. I was freaking out the entire way to school...everyone was talking about it...

I remember not knowing what to think...I was scared and just couldn't believe that it was real. I had the day off from work that day and was in Raytown at Steve's house...and I just remember all we did was watch TV all day long...we had to go out and get something for dinner and we felt horrible leaving the TV...we thought that it was our way of sympathsizing...just taking it all in and not talking.

I was going over to babysit my niece, Samantha. I had gotten up early and was driving over to my sisters listening to the radio. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I thought to myself this doesnt' sound real, a bomb or something in New York...I got to my sisters and she had the news on. It was when then the second plane hit. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Mel--I remember you and Steve were supposed to fly out to visit me right with Aaron right after it happened. You guys almost didn't get to take a flight due to the terrorist scare!
